Sweco is Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy, they plan and design the sustainable communities and cities of the future. The Crown Bridges connection will link the Laajasalo district of eastern Helsinki, the Korkeasaari island and the new Kalasatama district to the Helsinki city centre with a 10 km light rail line. At the same time, the connection will provide a new maritime route for cyclists and pedestrians.

Sweco is taking part as an Alliance partner in the Crown bridges, doing design in Yliskylä – Laajasalo. For water design Sweco is using Civil 3D and Naviate tools. Along 1.4 km of street most municipal water pipe systems are redesigned and replaced. At the same time road and tram drainage is designed while sharing models between platforms. A variety of options for municipal gravity and pressure pipe systems are simultaneously evaluated and quantities calculated. A continuous submission and coordination in BIM models are conducted throughout the project.

The Naviate Pipe tools add the functionalities for Plan, Profile and Section/Volumes that we lack in Civil 3D. The Plan and Profile tools allow us to create a workflow to more easily create and update our Pipe Networks. And the Naviate Pipe subassemblies really make the Section design and Volume Calculation a lot easier.
